Weavers interleave modal warp threads with zari (gold or silver metallic thread) or hand-twisted silk wefts, creating striped textiles of hypnotic depth. The striped weaves — ranging from bold ikat-inspired chevrons to the fine mathematical lines of traditional patta (striped border) fabrics — are given new life when the base cloth is modal, as the fibre's natural sheen amplifies the play of light across each coloured band.
